THROUGH THEIR SHADES: MICCA YOUNG

Say hello to Micca Young. An amazingly talented artist from Perth, WA. I had the opportunity to sit with her and discuss her craft, along with her recent life change and move to Melbourne.

Micca’s passion for art started when she was quite young, “I have always been eager to learn how to draw new things. Looking back on my journey I always had had a clear distinction between my realism work and more alternative styles, until the age of 15, when I started to merge those styles together.” In year 11, Micca’s art teacher introduced her to the surrealist art movement and artists like Mark Ryden, whom she draws inspiration from today.

“Every painting I do is a representation of me at the time”

Micca’s art comes to life in the comfort of her living room and to the sound of white noise, frequencies or her daily playlist. Her current project deep dives into a personal life experience and has helped her move through and process the situation.

“Sometimes, the ideas for my paintings come to me first and I don’t necessarily know what they mean. I will create what feels right and through that process, uncover their meaning.”

After hosting her exhibition in Perth, and creating a name for herself in the industry, Micca has moved to Melbourne to work in the art capital of Australia. Outside art, Micca takes pole classes and would learn drums and take up aerial silks some day in the future.

There is so much to come from this talented artist. Follow Micca’s journey here.
